MANY VOICES – A 3-year creative arts initiative developed and delivered by verd de gris arts in partnership with Square Chapel Arts Centre.
We are very pleased to have secured funding from Big Lottery Fund and Community Foundation for Calderdale for a 3-year programme of creative work here in Calderdale with partners Square Chapel Arts Centre – the focus over the course of the project will be on working with local women and girls … to explore aspects of empowerment, aspiration and opportunity.
Our aim is to explore some of the issues and challenges that impact on opportunity and aspiration for women and girls. We will be working with some excellent local organisations like:
Below is a brief plan of what we’ll be up to over the first year. As always, this will be open to change and reinvention as we respond to the ideas and suggestions of the women and girls we meet along the way.
At the heart of the project will be the ONE VOICE group – a creative steering group made up of a diverse group of local women.
This group will meet monthly and we’ll be inviting guest speakers / artists to help develop creative ideas and projects with the group … with the aim of showcasing their thoughts and concerns – helping to give them a ‘platform’ for engaging wider communities.
ONE VOICE will become a more and more confident and empowered group of women – encouraged to take ideas and project formats to more and more people within the wider community – constantly looking at and responding to issues as they arise from our other satellite projects.
This group will seek to deliver creative presentations and events using poetry, film making, photography, performance.
You can keep up with activities and interventions on the ONE VOICE page
BEHIND THE MASK
This tried and tested format will run sessions from October 2018 to early April ’19. The group will meet weekly at Women Centre, Halifax. As always, we will be seeking to engage a diverse mix of women. A key aim being that at the end of the seven-month project, some women will feel confident and empowered enough to join the ONE VOICE group!
MOTHER & DAUGHTER project
This intergenerational project will be developed with and through Beechill Primary School. The project will run as part of after-school activities at the school. We hope this may develop into an exchange / sharing project with another local partner organisation.
EXCHANGE & LEARNING opportunities
Throughout the course of Year 1 we will be exploring opportunities for shared learning and cultural exchange – developing opportunities to bring the various project participants together at certain moments in the year.
