In 2016 verde gris arts were successful in securing funding for a 3-year creative arts initiative developed and delivered in partnership with Square Chapel Arts Centre.

The focus over the course of the project was on working with local women and girls … to explore aspects of empowerment, aspiration and opportunity.

Our aim was to explore some of the issues and challenges that impact on opportunity and aspiration for women and girls.

ONE VOICE!
At the heart of the project was the creation of the ONE VOICE group – a creative steering group made up of a diverse  group of local women.

The group met monthly and we invited guest speakers / artists to help develop creative ideas and projects with the group … with the aim of showcasing their thoughts and concerns – helping to give them a ‘platform’ for engaging wider communities.

As ONE VOICE became a more and more confident and empowered group of women – encouraged to take ideas and project formats to more and more people within the wider community – they constantly looked at and responded to issues as they arose from our other satellite projects.

This group delivered creative presentations and events using poetry, film making, photography, performance.

BEHIND THE MASK
This tried and tested format ran each year. The group met weekly at Women Centre, Halifax. As always, we engaged a diverse mix of women. A key aim being that at the end of the seven-month project, some women felt confident and empowered enough to join the ONE VOICE group!

MOTHER & DAUGHTER project
This intergenerational project was developed with and through Beechill Primary School. The project ran as part of after-school activities at the school.

EXCHANGE & LEARNING opportunities
Throughout the course of the project we explored opportunities for shared learning and cultural exchange – developing opportunities to bring the various project participants together at certain moments in the year.
