‘Hear My Hands’ – a project working with the deaf community in Calderdale

Another wonderful day up at the beautiful @WhitestoneArts in Stanbury for a very special workshop with Danny from Music And The Deaf, musician Amy-Rose, dance-worker Natalie and Sabah … bouncing around ideas and sharing our love of the arts and performance.

The workshop kicked off new project work by verd de gris in partnership with Square Chapel Arts Centre and funded by Big Lottery Fund – it involves spending time with older members of the deaf community – listening to their stories and experiences but also finding new ways for us to reach and ‘connect’. This will be complimented by working with young people through local schools and community groups. We are interested to find out how life is changing for people who are deaf or hard of hearing … whether opportunities are better for young people now.

Working with Danny, Amy-Rose and Natalie we will bring everyone together through an exciting performance project to be staged in the Autumn 2017.

This project comes under the banner of ‘Dreams’ and explores ideas around “hope, aspiration and opportunity”. We will be working with groups across the borough over the course of the year using the theme to “challenge, inspire and celebrate”
