‘Behind the Mask’

“An exploration of our inner world; how we feel and find ourselves to be contrasted with how those around us see us and wish/demand/expect us to be.

Perhaps we find within ourselves a vast wildness that we find both beautiful and terrifying, yet we must hide this from our loved ones and wider society as they expect a calm demeanour and gentle acquiescence.

We are all united in our navigation of this world of masks and hidden inner landscapes and I feel the subject would have resonance for each of us.

To open out these perceived lacks or gaps, these un-lived inner selves, to recognise and name our masks in words, metaphor and poetry, then to translate that to a visual language using poetry. ” Kaye Martindale
